Dog rescued following ice plunge in Oxfordshire

  • 12-28-2010

A dog had a lucky escape after it fell through ice on an Oxfordshire lake.

Firefighters were called to the lake in Tiddington, near Thame, on Monday at 1526 GMT by the animal's owner.

When they arrived at the waterside near Sandy Lane, they found the dog hanging on to the edge of the ice about 5m (16ft) from the bank.

Crews wearing dry suits broke a path through the ice to the dog before carrying it to safety in a kit bag.

The animal was returned to its owner before being checked by a vet.

An Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue spokesman said: "There have been a number of similar incidents around the county and I would like to remind people to take extra care around frozen rivers and lakes and also keep dogs on leads."
