Hull fire: rescued pair 'lucky to be alive'

  • 8-31-2011

A man and woman were lucky to escape with their lives from a fire at a house in Hull, fire officers have said.

Rescue crews brought the pair to safety from the "serious house fire" on Cranbrook Avenue in the early hours of Wednesday.

The occupants were taken to Hull Royal Infirmary for treatment as they had inhaled smoke.

Investigations were being carried out at the scene on Wednesday to establish the cause of the fire.

The stairwell and first floor of the property were extensively damaged, the fire service said.

Keith Evans, of Humberside Fire Service, said: "I have no doubt that they were lucky to escape and be rescued by our crews last night.

"I have no doubt if they had been located upstairs there would have been fatalities today."
