Horse rescued from swimming pool in Worcestershire

  • 11-30-2011

A horse has been rescued from a disused swimming pool in Worcestershire.

The owner called Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service on Monday morning after finding her horse in the pool at Hanbury, near Droitwich.

The fire service pumped 25,000 litres of water from the pool and made steps from straw bales to let it walk out.

Watch Commander Craig Newman said: "It had obviously been there for some time and was starting to shiver from the effects of the cold water."

He added that the horse, a fully grown gelding called Louis, was a showjumper and it was "hard to say exactly how it came to be in the pool".

Fire crews from Droitwich and Bromsgrove were involved in the rescue, along with the Water First Responder team from Kidderminster.

After the rescue the horse was checked by the RSPCA and a vet.

The fire service said it was "unharmed by its ordeal".
