Man rescued from car washed down River Neb

  • 11-30-2011

A man had to be rescued from his car after it was swept down the River Neb, in the Isle of Man.

Fire crews were called to Brack a Broom Road water splash at about 14:00 GMT to reports of a car being washed down the river due to a strong current.

The Citroen Picasso had travelled downstream to Ballaleece Bridge, where firefighters rescued the unhurt driver.

Elsewhere, a motorist escaped unharmed after high winds caused a tree to fall on his van in Douglas.

The tree came down on Castletown Road at about 11:00 GMT, landing on the bonnet of the van.

The vehicle was badly damaged and the driver was left shaken, but uninjured.

The road was blocked for an hour while workers from the Department of Infrastructure removed the tree.

Isle of Man Police have advised motorists not to make journeys while the weather is poor, unless they were absolutely necessary.
