Inquest into woman's fire death at Trinity Avenue, Llandudno

  • 2-20-2012

An inquest has been opened into the death of an 82-year-old woman who was rescued from her Llandudno home by firefighters last Wednesday.

Nora Jones of Trinity Avenue died the following day in Ysbyty Glan Clwyd.

One of Mrs Jones' sons was also taken to hospital after the fire and a second son, and two fire fighters, were treated for smoke inhalation.

A fire service investigation found the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit in an under-stairs cupboard.

At the time the fire service issued a warning for householders to be aware that electrical fires can strike at anytime, anywhere.

"It's important to be as prepared as possible in the event of fire, by ensuring that working smoke alarms are fitted in your home and that you have clear escape routes," said Colin Hanks, assistant chief fire officer with the North Wales Fire and Rescue Service.

Mr Hanks appealed for householders to ensure areas housing electrical items, such as a fuse box, are kept clear of rubbish, papers or other combustible materials which could help a fire to spread.
