M4 reopens near Bridgend after three cars in collision

  • 3-30-2012

The M4 has reopened after three cars, one towing a caravan, crashed near Bridgend.

One of the cars overturned and two people were taken to hospital by ambulance. A third was airlifted to hospital but their injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

The incident initially closed the M4 in both directions between junction 34 and 35 near Pencoed and Miskin.

Police said traffic was slow past the scene and one lane remained closed.

South Wales Fire Service said three vehicles were involved with one towing a caravan.

It said two casualties had been taken to hospital by ambulance. A third casualty was flown to hospital by air ambulance.

A spokesperson for South Wales Police said: "We were called to an incident at 17:10 BST.

"The injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, but the M4 is closed in both directions between junction 34 and 35 whilst an air ambulance lands and takes one casualty to hospital.

"We hope to have the road opened as soon as possible."
