Woman rescued after falling at Loudoun Hill in Ayrshire

  • 6-1-2012

A woman in her 60s has been airlifted to hospital after falling from a hillside in Ayrshire.

Strathclyde Fire and Rescue Service said the woman suffered spine and chest injuries after falling 50ft while walking around Loudoun Hill.

Paramedics, fire crews and helicopters from the Scottish Ambulance Service and the Royal Navy were involved in the rescue.

The woman has been taken to Crosshouse Hospital for treatment.

Rescuers said their attempts to reach the woman were initially hampered by her precarious position on the side of the hill.

They were eventually able to reach her, placing her on a specially designed stretcher, before transporting her to an ambulance helicopter so she could be taken to hospital.

Steven Logan from Strathclyde Fire and Rescue said: "The casualty had suffered a nasty fall.

"However the combined efforts of fire crews and our partners in the ambulance service, the police and Royal Navy search and rescue meant that she could be quickly and safely stabilised and transported to hospital."
