Freckleton fire: Crimewatch appeal after siblings die in blaze

  • 9-28-2012

Police investigating the deaths of four siblings in a fire in Lancashire are making an appeal on BBC Crimewatch.

Reece Smith, 19, four-year-old twins Holly and Ella and two-year-old Jordan died in the fire at the house in Lytham Road, Freckleton, on 7 January.

The fire was started by a naked flame inside a wardrobe in the children's bedroom.

Detectives have said even the smallest piece of information could prove crucial to the investigation.

They hope by making a televised appeal, someone with new information will come forward.

The children all died from smoke inhalation as a result of the fire, which broke out in the converted bungalow at about 23:20 GMT on that Saturday night.

'Not too late'

Police believe the fire was started deliberately and are treating the deaths as murder.

Since the incident, police have spoken to hundreds of members of the local community.

Detectives have also been making appeals for information on Facebook and YouTube.

Det Supt Dermott Horrigan said: "It is not too late to come forward.

"Somebody knows exactly what happened that night, and who set fire to the wardrobe.

"I would ask them to search their conscience and tell us the truth about what happened. It's not too late to do the right thing."

An 18-year-old man arrested in connection with the incident remains on police bail.

Crimewatch will be broadcast on BBC One at 21:00 BST and will be available to view for seven days afterwards on the iPlayer.
