Three fires hit thatched cottages in Hampshire

  • 3-31-2013

More than 200 firefighters have tackled three separate fires at thatched properties in Hampshire.

Fire took hold at a row of cottages in East Meon's high street, shortly before 19:00 GMT on Good Friday, destroying the roofs of three properties.

Earlier, there were blazes at thatched cottages at Church Street, Andover and Claypits Lane, Dibden.

There are no reports of casualties in any of the fires. The causes are being investigated.

Part of East Meon High Street was closed while emergency services dealt with the fire into the early hours of Saturday.

A nearby pub was evacuated as a precaution due to smoke.

Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service (HFRS) said the residents of the three cottages affected had been been offered accommodation for the night by neighbours.
