Flights redirected after fire breaks out in Slough

  • 9-30-2013

Heathrow flights have been redirected and roads closed because of an industrial fire in Slough, Berkshire.

The fire in two storage buildings in Foundry Lane, Horton, started just before 11:00 BST.

An air and land exclusion zone was put in place as propane gas and acetylene cylinders were found.

Chris Bunyan of Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "It's had an impact on the flight path with planes being deviated."

A spokesperson for Heathrow Airport said: "We had to go to single runway for a time.

"There were delays of around 40 minutes. They are reduced now."

Although the fire has been brought under control, firefighters remain at the scene because of concerns about the gas cylinders heating up.

Surrounding roads are expected to remain closed for a mandatory 24-hours.

The fire service said the owner, who is believed to have been on the site at the time, was unharmed.

It is not yet known how the fire started.
