Claire Tiltman murder: Friends to host charity concert

  • 12-28-2013

Friends of a Kent schoolgirl who was murdered nearly 21 years ago have organised a concert to remember her and raise funds for charity.

Claire Tiltman was stabbed more than 40 times in an alleyway off London Road, in Greenhithe, four days after her 16th birthday on 18 January 1993.

No-one has ever been charged with the Dartford Grammar School pupil's murder.

The founders of the Justice for Claire campaign will host the concert at Dartford FC's ground on 18 January.

Funds from the event will go towards EllenorLions Hospice, where Claire's mother Lin Tiltman spent her last days before dying of cancer in 2008, and The Fire Fighters Charity.

'Remembered positively'

Claire, known to her friends as Tilt, was stabbed as she took a shortcut to visit a friend.

Lisa Gribbin, who was Claire's best friend, said it was "important to us that Tilt is remembered for more than just what happened to her".

"We really want people to come out and support us, help raise valuable funds for two important charities, and enjoy the evening.

"We hope this event will be the start of a fundraising legacy so that the name Tiltman can be remembered positively and for helping others."

In September, police officers searched the former Dartford home of Colin Ash-Smith, who was jailed in 1997 for attempted murder.

The property was searched on two previous occasions.
