Explosions at Marchwood estate injure firefighters

  • 9-2-2014

Gas cylinders exploding at an industrial site in Hampshire resulted in five firefighters being injured.

Six crews were called to the blaze in Cracknore Hard, Marchwood, Hampshire, on Sunday shortly before 19:30 BST.

Four firefighters were treated at the scene for minor injuries and one was taken to Southampton General Hospital with a minor leg injury.

The building was severely damaged, according to Hampshire Fire and Rescue.

A spokesman for Hampshire Constabulary said: "Several explosions were reported due to the presence of oxyacetylene cylinders in the building, no-one was seriously hurt in the incident."

A joint Health and Safety Executive and police investigation is now under way.

A spokeswoman for South Central Ambulance Service said: "We assisted five casualties for minor injuries, only one of which was taken to Southampton General Hospital with a minor leg injury."
