East Belfast fire: Three rescued from flats at Knocknagoney

  • 4-30-2015

Three people have been rescued from a fire at a block of flats in Knocknagoney in east Belfast.

The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service responded to a report of a blaze at Parklands in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Three residents were led to safety by firefighters and treated by the ambulance service.

Seven appliances attended the scene and the fire was extinguished.

Assistant Group Commander Andy Woods of the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service said that when crews arrived, a number of residents were trapped on balconies and the fire was well developed.

He said the incident was one of the more challenging they had attended recently.

"It was one of those challenging operations that we do train for on a regular basis and although it looked like a scene of panic among the residents, we were able to use our procedures and training to get in, put the fire out as quickly as possible and reach the residents," he said.
